Taos Winter Wine Festival

TAOS SKI VALLEY & AROUND TOWN

January 27 - 31, 2016

Every January visitors and locals alike savor the ability to combine world class skiing with fine wines and great cuisine. The event includes seminars, wine tastings, wine dinners hosted by vintners paired with Taos chefs. Two Grand Tastings feature more than 75 different wines from 20 wineries and delectables from a dozen Taos and Taos Ski Valley restaurants. A silent auction of rare wines benefits the New Mexico Nature Conservancy. This marks the 30th year for the event.

Taos Shortz Film Fest

 2016 will be the 9th year for this exceptional, internationally known short film festival. It’s been buzzed as ‘the Sundance for short films’ and is ranked among the “Top 50 Film Festivals Worth the Entry Fee’. The Taos Shortz Film Fest (TSFF) is a forum that unites short films and filmmakers with the community. TSFF strives in its leadership of presenting world class independent cinema, to keep the cinematic arts thriving in New Mexico and to put Taos back on the map as a cinematic destination.

The event offers two days of traditional New Mexico-style music from premier artists in the NM Music scene. To serve up such high quality entertainment at no cost to the public is no easy feat, but continues to be accomplished year after year. Each artist donates their time to perform for the six to eight thousand fans that come to Taos to experience the event. Sponsored by DMC’s four radio stations, Town of Taos, Taos County, and many other local businesses from Northern New Mexico and Southern Colorado, they help make each year’s event possible.

31th Annual Taos Pueblo Pow Wow

Members of Indian tribes throughout the country gather in Taos to compete in traditional dance competitions. Crafts booths and food vendors ring the pow wow circle during the three- day event.

As they have for centuries, the good people of Taos celebrate the Feast of St. Anne and St. James. The annual event, popularly referred to as “The Taos Fiestas,” allows the local population to put aside their labor for two days and bask in the leisure of the holy days.

 

Taos Home and Garden Tour

FIRST SATURDAY OF AUGUST

August 6, 2016

Responsible for the beautification of Taos public spaces, most notably festive hanging pots and the tulips that grace the Plaza, Los Jardineros Garden Club of Taos also plants trees annually as part of the Arbor Day festivities, provides tips and information on caring for landscape plants, and promotes edible landscaping as a way to sustainably beautify local homes. Additionally they provide beautification grants as part of their charter.

As its premiere fund-raising activity, the Club sponsors a self-guided tour of a handful of Taos' most beautiful homes and gardens each August.

Taos Grand Fall Arts

"TAOS FALL ARTS FESTIVAL" IS THE OLDEST ARTS FESTIVAL IN TAOS.

Founded in 1973 by a group of artists and gallerists. Over the years, other art events have set their dates to coincide with Fall Arts. The season has come to be known as "Grand Fall Arts" and it's a most exciting time to visit.

The 42nd Annual Taos Fall Arts Festival is the largest arts event in northern New Mexico and features works of art only from Taos County. This year, several distinct art shows will be held at six locations along a walking tour through Taos’ central core. The tour is .7 of a mile. Taos Wool Festival

Immerse yourself in the more than 400 years of wool tradition as New Mexico, Colorado and Texas breeders and fiber artists celebrate at the Wool Festival of Taos. Join in at Kit Carson Park for two days of family fun. Take a look at traditional and contemporary fiber artistry, an opportunity to get up close and personal with sheep, goats, rabbits, alpacas, and llamas. Kids can try their hand at a fiber project.

Produced by The Mountain and Valley Wool Association, this regional show features:
•  Outstanding juried vendors displaying their wool fiber, yarns, and artistic creations
•  A Fiber Critters Showcase where you can expect to see sheep, alpacas, goats, angora rabbits, and more
•  Demonstrations of shearing, spinning, dyeing, and other wool related skills; competitions showcasing the best in hand spinning, wool and fleece, and finished products
•  Food vendors featuring lamb delicacies, goat cheeses, and other delicious choices

Taos Mountain Balloon Rally

 For over 30 years, the Taos Mountain Balloon Rally has truly been a Taos community event. Every year on the last full weekend in October, as the trees in the high country erupt into a painter's canvas of oranges, reds, ambers and yellows, even more color is added to the vista as the Taos skies are filled with dozens of brightly colored hot air balloons lifting into the clear, cold dawn of a Taos Mountain sunrise.

“Yuletide in Taos” is the name we give to all the unique New Mexican celebrations that happen throughout the holiday season. With the falling of snow on candle-lit farolitos that line the streets in front of old adobe shops and homes, one is transported to another time and place. Yuletide is the entire holiday season and includes all the unique traditions of the holiday season here in the mountains of Northern New Mexico.
